Yanaiza and Mayra were friends of the host we stayed with in Havana and would sit in the reception playing this marvellous, lilting music with a kind of gentle intensity that reminds me a lot now of the Cubans that I met. I think the genre is called Nueva trova (though I’d better check this with them as I don’t know what they’re actually singing about :).
The video was shot in the Casa where we stayed and most of the street shots and roof-scapes are around Tejadillo in Old Havana and on the Prado, so for me it’s a lovely memento of my time there - great shot of a ship sailing in front of the El Morro Lighthouse near the end.
